Samosa Chaat is one of my favourite Indian street food snacks! It combines crispy samosas, spiced chickpeas, yogurt, and chutneys. This dish is perfect as a snack or a light meal and is incredibly easy to put together. Let’s dive into the recipe!
Ingredients for Samosa Chaat
For the Chickpeas
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 chopped onion
- 2 deseeded tomatoes, chopped
- 1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 chopped green chili
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1/2 teaspoon dried mango powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pomegranate powder (both can be found in all Asian stores!)
- Salt, to taste
- 4-5 tablespoons of water
- 1 teaspoon tamarind sauce
- Handful of chopped coriander
For the Green Chutney
- 1 inch of ginger
- 6-7 mint leaves
- 2 green chilies
- Large handful of coriander
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh is best!)
- Salt, to taste
For Assembling the Chaat
- 4 tbsp yogurt whisked with a splash of water
- 4 fried samosas, crushed
- Cooked chickpeas (from the above recipe)
- 1 finely diced tomato
- 1 finely diced small onion
- Whisked yogurt
- Green chutney
- Tamarind sauce
- Sev (found in Asian stores!)
- Pomegranate seeds
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Chickpeas
- Heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Let them fry for 2 minutes on a medium low heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the green chili and chopped tomatoes. Cook until soft.
- Add chickpeas, chaat masala, dried mango powder, pomegranate powder salt and water. Mix well and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the tamarind sauce and garnish with chopped coriander. Set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Green Chutney
- Blend ginger, mint leaves, green chilies, coriander, lemon juice, and salt with a little water until smooth.
- Adjust seasoning if needed and set aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Chaat
- Crush the fried samosas onto a serving plate.
- Spoon the cooked chickpeas over the samosas.
- Add diced tomato and onion.
- Drizzle with whisked yogurt, green chutney, and tamarind sauce.
- Sprinkle sev on top for a crunchy texture.
- Garnish with pomegranate seeds and serve immediately!
